Frequently answered questions
Can J-SUB be combined with a Q-SUB / CSA arrays
Basically yes. J-SUB in principal is designed as 3 xQ-SUB / CSA but all in one box, more compact, can fly, less weight, tuned somewhat lower in frequency and, last but not least, therefore cheaper. Of course approbiate spacing between arrays have to be obeyed.
Should J-SUB be used horizontal or vertical?
The tuning of cardioid function is done for real distances. Most significant for the cardioid function ist the acoustic path around the box on the common axis of the two front 18" speakers. In general the J-SUB should be used in horizontal orientation. The cardioid effect increases with the amount of cabinets. For a single cabinet it is therefore not significant if it is used upright or horizontal. When using two or more stacked subs the orientation should be horizontal.
What is the recommended J8/J12 to J-SUB ratio?
It is highly depending on your type of venue, set up and program. A rule of thumb says one J-SUB to two J8 or J12.
Can a B2-SUB and a J-SUB be compared?
The B2-SUB and the J-SUB are two different concepts. The J-SUB is a compact, flyable, cardioid subwoofer in direct radiating bassreflex design. The B2-SUB is a bandpass enclosure, designed to stay on the ground without build in directivity control. Three B2-SUBs in CSA mode will compare performance wise with two J-SUBs but require more space.
Does d&b offer an inclometer / laser system?
Z5300 Fyling frame is prepared to take industry standard inclometerws such as Rieker or ProSight units. d&b does not offer an own system.
How far off the wall can it be positioned?
It can be placed the wheel distance from a wall as this does not adversely affect the performance at the front. The main thing possibly influenced is the cardioid performance which happens behind and to the back sides of the speaker. This is valid for the B4-SUB, J-SUB, J-INFRA and CSA setups.
Can a B2/Q-SUB/J-SUB/J-INFRA be used in conjunction with the B4 subwoofer, and can a B2 be placed next to a J-SUB?
We do not recommend mixing omni directional and cardioid subwoofers.
