The 2 RU four channel D80 amplifier is a high power density amplifier, ideally suited for use in both mobile and installation environments. It contains configurations for all d&b loudspeakers and a linear mode. The signal delay capability enables user definable settings of up to 10 s (= 3440 m/11286 ft) to be applied independently to each channel. The same applies to the two 16-band equalizers, providing optional parametric, asymmetric, shelving or notch filtering.
The D80 incorporates a colour TFT touchscreen, offering quick access to the menu structure, while the rotary encoder can be used for fine adjustment. The front panel and the integrated touchscreen of the D80 amplifier is tilted up for ease of operation when the amplifier is below eye level.
The equal ratio of signal input to amplifier output channels increases the application flexibility particularly for monitor, frontfill or effect channel use.
The LoadMatch function integrated within the D80 amplifier enables the electrical compensation of loudspeaker cable properties, without the need for an extra conductor. This results in an increased accuracy of audio reproduction over a bandwidth of up to 20 kHz, preserving the tonal balance when cable lengths of up to 70 m (230 ft) are used. The D80 incorporates Class D amplifiers utilizing a power supply with active Power Factor Correction (PFC) suitable for mains voltages 100 V/120 V/200 V/230 V, 50 - 60 Hz and maintains a stable output when used with weak or unstable mains supplies. An NL8 provides all outputs on a single connector, while individual outputs are optionally NL4 or EP5 connectors. RJ 45 and etherCON connectors enable access to the d&b Remote network via CAN-Bus and OCA/AES70 via Ethernet respectively.

The D80 Touring rack assemblies
The D80 Touring rack assemblies are designed as fully equipped and prewired system racks, providing mains power distribution, connector interfaces and all internal cabling for either three or six D80 amplifiers1.
The D80 Touring rack assembly for three D80 amplifiers is equipped with a 32 A CEE mains power connector2, a mains distribution device with a 32 A mains link, and a loudspeaker connector panel.
The 6 x D80 Touring rack assembly is available with either a single 32 A CEE mains power distribution panel, or a dual 30 A NEMA mains power distribution panel. Electrically interlocked auxiliary mains outputs (powerCON3 16 A sockets) are provided to power the DS10 and other low current devices such as laptops. The 2 RU loudspeaker connector panel of the 6 x D80 Touring rack assembly provides six NL8 (4 channel) and two LKA25 (12 channel) loudspeaker outputs. This loudspeaker connector panel is also equipped with a Power over Ethernet (POE) socket to connect and power an inclinometer.
The DS10 Audio network bridge delivers 16 AES3 outputs to the D80 amplifiers via the Dante audio transport protocol over Ethernet, while also providing distribution of control data. It incorporates an integrated 5-port switch, offering a primary and redundant network for the Dante protocol, as well as advanced functions such as Multicast Filtering and VLAN modes. This extensive switch flexibility provides extended connectivity for a laptop to control the d&b amplifiers using the R1 Remote control software via the OCA (Open Control Architecture) protocol. Using the DS10 Audio network bridge, audio signals and remote control data can be combined using a single Ethernet cable. The front panel of the DS10 is designed to align with the input panel of the D80 Touring rack assembly.
The 19” internal shockmount steel frames also accommodates an I/O panel providing both analog and digital audio signals as well as four network connectors for either Ethernet or CAN-Bus remote networking. The D80 Touring rack assembly is provided with either a DS10 Audio network bridge, which comes supplied with all necessary cabling, or a 1 RU drawer. The DS10 Audio network bridge is provided in the 6 x D80 Touring rack assembly as standard.
The DS10 Rack upgrade kit contains everything required to replace the drawer within the D80 Touring rack assembly with a DS10. This kit includes a DS10 Audio network bridge, a powerCON3 to powerCON3 mains cable, an Ethernet patch cable and two AES3 XLR patch cables.
The MC24 multicore
Large line array systems require an efficient multicore solution, especially when each loudspeaker in an array is driven individually with ArrayProcessing. The d&b MC24 multicore system is designed specifically for use with the 6 x D80 Touring rack assembly. It provides 12 amplification channels (24 lines 4 mm2) with an LKA25 F/M connector, delivering 12 channels in Dual Channel mode, or 6 channels in 2-Way Active mode and Mix TOP/SUB mode. The reinforced cable, heavy duty mesh cable gland and bayonet clutch within the LKA25 connector improves handling and reliability. A single Touring rack can drive up to 12 J-Series cabinets in ArrayProcessing, or 24 cabinets in standard mode with linked loudspeakers. Up to 24 T, Y or V-Series line array loudspeakers can be driven with ArrayProcessing from a single amplifier rack, while a total of 48 Y-Series or V-Series line array modules can be driven in standard mode with linked loudspeakers. Adapters are available to break-out from the multicore cable to the individual NLT4 inputs of the loudspeakers. A break-in option is available to adapt an NL8 amplifier output to a MC24 multicore. All d&b Touring rack assemblies come fully assembled, prewired and tested.

The amplifier shall be four channel incorporating digital signal processors (DSP) to provide loudspeaker specific configurations and functions and dedicated protection circuits. It shall be equipped with digital and analog signal inputs as well as link outputs, remote control and monitoring capabilities via CAN-Bus or Ethernet (OCA). User interface shall be via a TFT color touch screen in conjunction with a digital rotary encoder and via remote.
Four input and input link connector shall be provided while two of the connectors shall be configurable for analog or digital (AES3) audio signals.
Analog inputs shall be electronically balanced with an input impedance of 38 kOhm while the analog link output is linked in parallel to the analog input connector.
The digital inputs shall be transformer balanced with an input impedance of 110 ohm while the digital link output shall be electronically balanced providing analog signal buffering (refresh) and power fail relay (Bypass). Sampling shall be 48 / 96 kHz / 2 Ch/n and Word-Sync: PLL-locked to source (slave mode) synchronization.
Signal processing shall utilize 96 kHz sampling rate with 27 Bit ADC / 24 Bit DAC conversion while the latency shall not exceed 0.3 msec.
The output connector options shall be 4 x NL4 or 4 x EP5. A four channel out connector (NL8) shall be provided for loudspeaker multicore purposes.
Output configurations shall be selectable for dual channel, mixed top/sub and 2-way active modes.
It shall incorporate two user definable 16-band equalizers for independent application to each channel allowing parametric filters, notch, hi- and lo- shelve filters as well as asymmetric filters.
A signal delay capability of up to 10 sec. (3440 m / 11286 ft) shall be incorporated for independent application to each channel.
Compensation for cable length shall be incorporated to improve impulse response.
It shall contain a signal generator offering pink noise or sine wave program.
Load monitoring and system check functions shall be included to ascertain the status of the loudspeaker impedance. Load monitoring shall allow impedance monitoring to determine the status of an LF or HF driver in systems with multiple elements, even if these are crossed over passively.
Input monitoring shall be included to allow detection of incoming pilot signals.
A Fallback function shall be available to enable the definition of primary (Regular) and secondary (Fallback) signal paths for analog and digital input signals with two different modes (Manual or Auto). It shall ensure that any secondary or emergency signal fed to the Fallback inputs is transmitted when required.
The Override function shall be available to allow a dedicated analog input to be set as a major signal path with highest priority for general messages or emergency services.
An AutoStandby function shall automatically switch the amplifier to Standby mode after a predefined time when the incoming signal level at the individually specified inputs drops below a defined threshold. The function shall be independent of the mute status of the respective channels. An AutoWakeup function shall automatically repower the amplifier, when an input signal is present and exceeds a defined threshold.
A switch mode power supply shall be incorporated and allow automatic mains range selection for use with 220 - 240 V AC and 100 - 120 V AC, 50 - 60 Hz mains power supply voltages. Mains voltage monitoring, mains inrush current limiter, self-resetting overtemperature, under- and overvoltage protection shall be incorporated as well as mains current limiting.
Power factor compensation (PFC) shall be incorporated to provide a clean and efficient sinusoidal current draw.
It shall have temperature and signal controlled fans for cooling the internal assemblies.
The power amplifier channels shall have ground fault protection, output pop-noise suppression, DC offset protection, output HF voltage limitation, output current limitation/protection and self-resetting overtemperature protection.
The output power shall be:4 x 2600/2000 W into 4/8 ohms at a crest factor (CF) of 6 dB, 4 x 4000/2000 W into 4/8 ohms at a crest factor (CF) of 12 dB, all channels driven.
Damping factor (20 Hz - 200 Hz into 4 ohms) shall be >100 while the S/N ratio (unweighted, RMS) shall be >110 dBr (analog input) and >114 dBr (digital input).
The dimensions (HxWxD) shall not exceed 2RU x 19" x 530.5 mm (2RU x 19" x 20.9") and shall weigh no more than 19 kg (42 lb).
The amplifier shall be the D80 by d&b audiotechnik GmbH.
