The J12 is a 3-way design housing 2 x 12" LF drivers, one hornloaded 10" MF driver and two 1.4" exit HF compression drivers with 3" voicecoils mounted to a dedicated waveshaping device. The mechanical and acoustical design enables flown vertical columns of up to 24 loudspeakers to be suspended using vertical splay angles between them of 0° to 7° with a 1° resolution. The cylindrical wave segments produced couple coherently in the vertical plane. Due to the dipolar arrangement of the neodymium LF drivers the exceptional 120° horizontal constant directivity dispersion control is nominally maintained down to 250 Hz. The J12 is acoustically and mechanically compatible to the J8 loudspeaker. It can be used in columns of purely J12 loudspeakers or combined with J8s and / or with J-SUBs. The J12 cabinet is constructed from marine plywood and has an impact and weather protected PCP (Polyurea Cabinet Protection) finish. The front of the loudspeaker cabinet is protected by a rigid metal grill, the side and rear panels incorporate four handles, and two NLT4F/M, EP5 or NL8 connectors wired in parallel are also mounted at the rear.
The d&b audiotechnik loudspeaker range is designed exclusively for operation with d&b amplifiers. These provide power as well as comprehensive control and protection functions tailored to achieve the performance, reliability and longevity associated with the d&b System approach. The d&b D80 and 30D amplifiers are recommended to drive the J12.
The 2-Way active J12 requires two channels of the D80.

The loudspeaker system shall be 3-way actively driven between the low frequency and the mid/high sections. A passive crossover shall be used between the mid/high frequency sections.
The loudspeaker shall only be operated by a dedicated, compatible controller amplifier.
The loudspeaker shall produce a cylindrical wave segment suitable for use as an element in a line array and maintain an extremely accurate horizontal dispersion pattern down to very low frequencies (120° > 250 Hz).
The loudspeaker shall have a design that exhibits extremely low power compression and for this reason shall utilize the rear rigging elements as a heat sink for the midrange driver.
The loudspeaker shall consist of two 12" LF neodymium drivers in a vented enclosure, one hornloaded 10" midrange driver and two coaxially mounted 1.4" exit compression drivers with 3” voicecoils coupled to a waveshaping device.
The enclosure shall be constructed from marine plywood with an impact resistant and weather protecting PCP (Polyurea Cabinet Protection) finish. The cabinet front shall be protected by a perforated steel grill backed with acoustic foam.
The cabinet shall incorporate a three point rigging system for the assembly of vertical line source arrays of up to 24 cabinets in conjunction with a dedicated flying frame.
The power handling of the LF section shall be 500/2000 W (RMS/peak 10 ms) while the power handling of the MF/HF section shall be 200/800 W (RMS/peak 10 ms).
The frequency response (–5 dB) measured on axis shall extend from 48 Hz - 17 kHz with a maximum sound pressure level (SPLmax) (peak/1 m) of at least 143 dB. The horizontal dispersion shall be 120° > 250 Hz, while the vertical splay angle shall be ajustable in a range of 0° - 7° in 1° increments.
The connection panel on the back shall be recessed and fitted with speakon NLT4 F/M sockets (EP5 connectors as an option).
The dimensions (W x H x D) shall not exceed 1100 x 360 x 570 mm (1100" x 14.16" x 22.44") and shall weigh no more than 60 kg (132 lb).
The loudspeaker shall be the J12 by d&b audiotechnik GmbH.
