A pleasurable lifestyle with d&b audiotechnik: Unique dinner and dance experience at Papillon Berlin.
The Papillon restaurant has been enhancing Berlin with an exclusive dinner and dance experience since 2023. Just a stone’s throw from the Zoological Garden, discerning guests can expect not only delectable dishes, but also delectable sound. Thanks to the high-quality sound system from d&b audiotechnik, the restaurant turns into a popular party location after the kitchen closes.
TSE AG was responsible for planning the sound system, while Elektroakustik Neuenhagen GmbH took care of the installation. In a large space extending across 640 square meters, Papillon not only has a stylish restaurant area, but also a 15-meter-long bar with a cozy lounge. In both the bar and the restaurant, there are DJ booths with professional equipment for resident DJs and other artists who play their tracks at Papillon.
Papillon’s sound system is not just impressive on account of its professional setup, but also its dimensions: 30 ultracompact d&b 44S two-way loudspeaker systems deliver high-quality sound at selected positions throughout the interior space. In addition to the 44S loudspeakers, four d&b 10S high-performance loudspeakers are used. The powerful bass is supplied by five compact d&b B8 and five d&b B6 subwoofers, cleverly positioned near the DJ booths or mounted on the ceiling. All d&b systems are powered by six four-channel D40 amplifiers and three 5D installation amplifiers in a compact 9.5" format. The entire system can be conveniently controlled via an Apple iPad, which is fitted in a wall mount in the catering area.
The d&b 44S model was chosen not only on account of its outstanding sound quality, but also its compact design. A 44S setup would have been sufficient for the restaurant alone, but more power was needed to create an optimal evening experience, which explains the additional, larger d&b 10S loudspeakers alongside the powerful subwoofers. In terms of the party levels, there are no problems with the neighborhood around Zoo Station after 10 p.m. – there are simply no directly adjacent residents to complain about the noise disturbing their night’s rest.
“When we moved into the location, there were just two empty subway arches and an empty square-shaped annex,” reports Friederike Brandts, who runs Papillon and other Berlin locations together with her husband Felix. “We found the area around Zoo Station fascinating, in complete contrast to the usual top locations on Kurfürstendamm, which charge horrendous rents.”
The money was invested in high-quality sound instead. Papillon opted for the d&b Subscription-Series, a model that provides them with a top-of-the-line sound system for four years. TSE AG takes care of the service side. For a fixed monthly fee, the people at Papillon get a complete solution, including commissioning, remote monitoring, and comprehensive service, enabling them to fully concentrate on providing their guests with an unforgettable dinner and dance experience.
