Faith Broadcasting Network continues their journey with the d&b A-Series.

For the past 18 years Faith Broadcasting Network has been producing Christian television content and has expanded to reach audiences all over the globe, with the headquarters in South Africa being joined by studios in the USA and UK, making it the largest religious broadcaster located on the African continent.

The recently refurbished Faith Dome sits at the heart of the MyFaithTV broadcasting operation, housing a number of television studios, charitable warehouses, activity spaces of the ministry and the enormous main broadcasting studio used for a variety of live events as well as regular services. It measures a staggering 120 metres by 60 metres, with an 18-metre-high ceiling, making it a vast space that’s difficult to cover acoustically.

Because of the extreme height of the space we needed a loudspeaker that would provide the necessary vertical coverage and output whilst staying within the client's budget. A traditional line array would have achieved similar results but would have driven the price up as you need more cabinets and different rigging. The augmented array technology and resulting flexibility of the A-Series combined with the directivity control and reliability of the d&b brand made it the ideal contender for this project.Nathan Ihlenfeldt, Technical Sales Specialist, Stage Audio Works

A massive undertaking that has been in the making since the church acquired the old wool warehouse in the harbour of East London in South Africa finally reached successful completion at the end of 2020 and saw the Faith Dome reborn. It is now the largest indoor arena to be found on the Eastern Cape.

In 2015 building works began to replace the roof and improve the infrastructure needed for producing high-quality worship content for broadcast and after the necessary structural building work was completed, d&b sales partner Stage Audio Works was called upon to advise on the best audio solution for the new setup.

“We have been working with churches all over the country, both traditional and contemporary and pride ourselves on our industry expertise. Whether your facility seats 100, or in this case 10.000, we are able to put together a solution appropriate to your budget and ministry objectives,” says Shaun Xavier, Marketing Manager for Stage Audio Works. “I’m pleased to say that the Faith Dome project was no exception and the results are superb. A great collaboration.”

The vision for the new dome was clear. Visibility and engagement were to be heightened for the congregation as well as improve filming and recording angles for the broadcasting crew. To achieve this the stage was moved into the centre of the space.

The church’s admirable and grand vision proved a challenging layout to install a sound system that stayed in line with visual requirements and most importantly would be able to create even coverage to reach the entire audience while staying intelligible to produce high-quality recordings.

The size of the venue as well as centrally placed stage were a massive challenge to address. We had to prevent reflection, adhere to weight and height restrictions so the equipment stays out of sight for filming purposes while making sure the audio is powerful enough to reach the furthest corners of the room and staying crystal clear and reliable for being broadcast live on TV.Nathan Ihlenfeldt

All parameters of the project combined resulted in the choice of the A-Series as the right solution, according to Ihlenfeldt.
