NewSquare club and d&b in Hanoi
A splendid mix of technologies with an overwhelming presence of LED, Hanoi’s NewSquare club located in the confines of the five star Hanoi Daewoo Hotel is proving to be one of the hottest destinations in the city. “This project is very special to us,” said a representative from NewSquare. “With each new venue we always strive to do a better job. Quality of sound is a rising expectation with our clientele so for NewSquare we looked West to European PA systems.”
The Directors at NewSquare had heard good reports about d&b audiotechnik and, accompanied by their sound consultant Mr Nghia, arranged a visit to the d&b audiotechnik S.E. Asian office in Singapore. “They came wanting immediately to place an order for Q-Series loudspeakers with E-Series components for fills and delays,” began Sebastian Song, CEO of d&b audiotechnik Singapore. “I was impressed with their knowledge, but soon discovered that Mr Nghia had spent several years studying audio in Germany. I handed the project to Imran Muhammad from our Application Support department to further the project with Mr Nghia.”
The club décor is stainless steel chic, the floor area filled with tables and chairs, the walls covered with LED and video screens; lots of hard reflective surfaces. “NewSquare presented us with a 2D floor plan which I re-rendered into 3D with Sketch-Up Pro,” said Muhammad. “I imported the 3D plan into EASE to check the proposed loudspeaker placements. Mr Nghia had certainly done his homework; a few tweaks here and there, but essentially it was spot on; I would have adopted the same approach. When we’re asked to do a job like this we always consider how the clubs operate; that’s not just making sure you keep sound energy off the bar serving area, it also requires that we thoroughly consider the listening areas. The placement of the various loudspeaker components, and the fact that Nghia had allowed for a single amplifier channel per cabinet operation in critical locations, meant that by using the d&b R60 Remote interface we could tune certain zones for lower intensity listening.”
The final installation was completed by combining Q-SUBs in CSA configuration along with B2-SUBs which makes for a robust low end in this thousand capacity club, while the mid/highs utilise all Q-Series elements, Q1, Q7 and Q10. “We even installed E12s for DJ monitors,” added Muhammad. The owners were especially pleased, “The sound is very strong yet curiously doesn’t hurt your ears. Investing in the best is the only way to go.”
