d&b’s KSL achieves precision sound for Goa’s Leela Club.
The Leela Club, a new nightspot serving discerning customers in the bustling coastal destination of Goa, has been designed and built to offer the highest standard of nightlife and entertainment – and with that standard in mind, it includes a KSL sound system from d&b audiotechnik, provided by d&b’s local partner, Ansata.
Aiming High
Leela Club’s owner Santosh Kumar Sharma saw potential in Goa, ‘India’s party capital’, for a new, luxury venue to rival some of the world’s leading hotspots.
With his experience of running a nightclub in Pattaya, Thailand, Sharma, believes, “People don’t just come for music, they come for an experience. The sound, the vibe, the crowd, the energy in the room, everything has to come together.”
Consequently, his requirements for Leela Club’s sound system were comprehensive and ambitious. It would have to guarantee sound suitable for world-standard DJs and artists, deliver tight and controlled low-frequency energy as well as clarity and definition, even at high playback levels, throughout the space – dance floor, VIP lounges, and seating zones – with no dead spots. It should be flexible enough to serve spoken announcements and a variety of event formats, and it had to be rider friendly.
To ensure all of this, Sharma partnered with Ansata, d&b audiotechnik’s exclusive distribution partner in India.
“I was very clear with the Ansata team that I wanted everyone – even a person standing at the far corner of the club – to feel the music properly. Not just hear it, but feel it,” says Sharma. “d&b stood out because it offers both power and clarity.”
Tailored Performance
MD and CEO of Ansata, Leslie Lean, notes that while India has seen significant growth in appetite for good music and sound experiences, it “still lacks adequate music-ready venues that can host major artists without relying on external rental systems.”
Lean and his engineers worked closely with Sharma to understand his aims and produce a design to meet them. They discussed his vision for power and definition, for equal coverage across all zones, and exactly how the club would function on busy nights.
KSL’s Cardioid Control
The solution is a large-format d&b audiotechnik system built to meet the club’s diverse program requirements, ensuring both impact and nuance across DJs, live acts, and club playlists.
The high-performance main system is built around installation models of the mid-sized KSL system from d&b’s SL-Series. With its cardioid output pattern, KSL provides full bandwidth directivity, allowing for careful control of sound and limiting potentially troublesome reflections.
Two arrays, each of four KSLi8 and two KSLi12, are complemented by punchy, tight low-end from four KSLi-SUBs, plus another six SL-GSUB for deep, controlled sub-bass extension, essential for DJ nights and EDM parties.
Additional coverage comes from four Vi10P cabinets and two Vi-GSUBs, plus a pair of M4 stage monitors. The entire system is powered by 40D and D90 amplifiers.
Energy, Clarity & Consistency
Sharma is delighted with what Ansata has achieved.
“What I love most is the consistency,” he continues. “Whether you are standing right in front of the DJ or somewhere at the back, the energy feels the same.” That balance keeps the crowd comfortable. People stay on the dance floor longer because the sound feels powerful but not harsh. That was exactly the experience I wanted to create.”
Lean concludes, “With d&b audiotechnik now featuring at the top of most global technical riders, it was essential to deliver a system that met those expectations. Congratulations to Santosh and The Leela Club team for committing to a system that is built for world-class performances.”
